On Friday the 20th of July 2007 a
special Bargain Hunt was filmed at Toovey's in Sussex. It was the 500th
edition and it featured the top four experts battling it out. David was
teamed with Philip and they were against Kate and Charles. Both teams were
out to make a profit, as proceeds were to go to local charities. So be
sure not to miss it when it is broadcast. |

Guess
who??!!! |
The 500th Bargain Hunt was
screened on the 15th of October 2007 with David and Philip winning
with a profit of £245, while Kate and Charles came out even.
Well done David and Philip.

The Mellors and Kirk
auction house in a snowy Nottingham was the venue for more Bargain Hunt
filming on 22nd February 2005. There were no less than eight experts,
filming four programmes. Tim of course was the presenter. Tim also did a
bit of auctioneering.

The experts, along
with David were, James Braxton, Philip Serrell, Colin Young, Charles
Hanson, Kate Alcock, Elizabeth Talbot and Philip Allwood. James started
us off trying to think of the collective noun for a group of experts. A
LOT of Experts was suggested. Or maybe a GAVEL of Experts!!
Ever
wondered what the experts do between filming? Sit around and have a
laugh!

Unfortunately, not
all the experts had a good day in the auction room. But David and his
team had the highest profit on the day. Can't really say any more,
but well done David.

Derby University was the venue for
the filming of Bargain Hunt day time, on 25th and 26th October 2003.
David and James Braxton were the two experts on both days. Two shows were
filmed each day. One show each day when broadcast will last 30 minutes and
the other 45 minutes. The longer show incorporating the swap item. It
might look easy on television, but until you have seen the filming taking
place, you don't realise how much work goes into these programmes. If you
ever find yourself at a fair where Bargain Hunt is being filmed, stand and
watch for a while.
David's first team on day one were
Gail and Zoë, The Barby Girls. They had written a song for David. The Girls were
filmed singing it, so keep watching Bargain Hunt to see the girls and their
rendition. In the meantime, here are the lyrics;
We are Barby's
Girls
In his antique
world
He doesn't like
plastic
It's got to be
fantastic

Porcelain
everywhere
He'll know if it is
rare
Kitch or treen
We are keen

Barby's on the job
So we're bound to
make a few bob
He's fantastic
Charismatic

Come on Barby
Let's go party

David's other
contestants were Moz and Sally,

Some time today would be nice.
It will make a profit. Honestly!

Now where are those contestants?
Lyndsey and Jayne,

Who are you again!
Voila!

Now come on lads, we've got to try and beat Mr Barby!
Margaret and Tracey,

Don't think that will make a profit. You paid how much? That IS a bargain.

Hi Jenny,
Thank you for your kindness when we spoke on Sunday, I will treasure
the cards that you gave me, I have enjoyed the Web site and look forward to logging on for regular updates. It was quite apparent from our short chat that
you genuinely liked David, I'm not surprised, he was just as charming off
camera as he appears on, his celebrity status not dulling his enthusiasm and
obvious love of antiques and collectables. We now know that he not only loves
cats, Stella Artois, but he also has a weakness for Thornton's Chocolates,
we'll have to see what we can do when you are in our area again. I think I
probably got the best bargain on Sunday, a chat and a card from you, a chat
and an autograph from David, access to your Web site, autographs from the
equally delightful James and Tim, and all for free, has to be a Bargain, and I
bought a Royal Crown Derby paperweight at a good price as well. So all in all
a very satisfactory day or "Bargain Hunt".
Thanks again
Jackie and
Graham Braithwaite.

It was a lovely day on Saturday 25th at Derby and
absolutely brilliant meeting everyone including you Jenny. What a surprise
when we actually clicked onto the web page just now and saw our photo's. It
was a pleasure meeting David Barby. We loved his sense of humour his lovely shirt straight out of the
packet
and hope he managed to get his tie cleaned ok after being in his coffee. We
will never forget the jacket and shall never ever mention egg cups to him and
hopefully he has helped us get some bargains. Moz bought a lovely guitar and
is
playing it at this moment. Hope to see you all again sometime. Keep up the
good work.
SALLY and MOZ
David broke an
egg cup that was on one of the stalls!! This one in fact.
