Filming Flog It Archive

The Corn Exchange in Bedford was host to Flog It on a very cold November day. I got to Bedford about 8.30 and could find no-where to park! But thanks to David, who directed me to a car park behind the Cecil Higgins Museum. Which, according to David, is one of the better provincial museums.

Along with David today was Adam Partridge and they had the customary rummage along the early morning queue.

Inside The Corn Exchange and we find a familiar face. Pippa Deeley was one of the background experts.

Today was also Remembrance Sunday and at 11 o'clock, Barry, one of the Flog It crew, asked everyone to be quiet as we all observed the two minute silence.

Then it was back to work. Paul having a chat to some of the people waiting before the serious job of doing his valuations.

Barry, who earlier in the day had called for the two minute silence, showed his fun side by getting into this picture as I took it. David then went on to do the valuation...

...and then some more valuations...

...yet another before advising Adam on one of his valuations.

Both David and Adam agreed they had some good items brought in today so hopefully the sale will go well. The auction is at Cheffins auction rooms in Clifton Road, Cambridge, on 16th December.

Some pictures from the auction at Cheffins in Cambridge.

Potters International Hotel in the military town of Aldershot in Hampshire, was the setting for the Flog It valuation day on 26th September 2004. David was one of the experts, and this time was accompanied by Thomas Plant. Kate Alcock was the presenter.

The auction for this Flog It will be on 20th October at The Auction Galleries, in Warnham, West Sussex.

David and Thomas get an early morning look at what's been brought along.

While Kate gets wired up!

Thomas and Kate are all smiles.

So David decides to join in!

But does David ever stop smiling??

Ermm.. well.....

Sometimes.

But never for very long!

Sunday 20th of June saw another Flog It valuation day. This time at The Old Library, Custard Factory, in Birmingham. Joining David for today's valuations was Philip Serrell. For this programme Kate Alcock was the presenter. There was a steady stream of people throughout the day, but not as many as is normal for Flog It. I think the venue was a little strange and maybe not advertised as well as usual. But there was enough to keep everyone busy until 5.30pm.

Experts in harmony!!

Philip and Kate get going with their valuations.

As does David!

A quick rummage in between filming finds another item for valuation.

Time for another valuation before.....

.....another quick rummage!

What Flog It day would be complete without a clock? Or two!!

The now customary autograph signing.

Sunday 30th of May 2004 was the turn of the people on the Isle Of Wight to gather for a Flog It! valuation day.  Along with David, his fellow experts were, Nigel Smith, Michael Baggott and Catherine Southern. The  queues formed early as we've come to expect on these occasions. The valuations started at 9.30am and finished just before 5.00pm. So another good day on a very sunny Isle Of Wight.

It's all right Nigel, you don't have to queue as well.     Another popular Flog It valuation day.

They've started without me?                                                   But they wouldn't!

Where is everybody?                                       I think I'd better join the others then!

Valuations are soon under way.

No, they didn't start without David. Who soon had his work cut out yet again!

But does he keep smiling? Yes ,of course he does.

Disagreement between experts? Only about who's turn it was to wear the white suit!

No, everyone's friends on this programme.

End of the day and time for.....one more autograph!

Well it's Sunday so what does that mean? Yes, it's another Flog It! valuation day. This time the people of Northampton turned out on a grey and wet Sunday in February. When I arrived at about 8.45am there was already a queue of around two hundred people outside The Guildhall. With David this time was fellow expert  James Lewis.

Both had their hands full today as the last people to have their items valued didn't get seen by David and James until 7pm. Having waited in  the queue for over six hours!  This was the best attended Flog It! I've been to, so well done to the people of Northampton.

The auction where all the lots were sold, took place at Charles Ross auctioneers in Woburn, Bedfordshire, on 22nd April 2004.

Hanging the Flog It banner from the splendid facade of The Guildhall; and it's beautiful interior.

While Paul gets the outside scenes filmed David and James have a look at what people have brought along.

Now to the serious business of the valuations. Now what is that David's got his hand on in the middle picture? Believe it or not, it's a cat!!

Paul and James have their valuations to do as well.

A quick coffee then deciding which items to take to auction. Before finding time to sign autographs!

As soon as David started his walk outside earlier in the day, he spotted this piece of Moorcroft. Wouldn't mind owning that myself. Now when's the auction..?!

Who do we have here with David? Well Barbara and Chris are members of The Barby Players, an amateur theatre group based in the village of Barby,  Northamptonshire.  David is the groups patron.

Just never know who you're going to meet at these Flog It! days!!

Pictures from the auction at Charles Ross Auctioneers.

It would be a lot easier to take pictures at these Flog It auctions if there  weren't so many BBC cameras about!!

Now how many of you ladies out there would want to swap places??!!

On 18th January 2004 the BBC descended on Derby University for another Flog It! valuation day. Along with David, the other experts on the day were Philip Serrell, James Lewis and Michael Baggott. The valuations start at about 9.30am and are scheduled to finish at 4.30pm. But when it finally finished and everyone was going home it was 6 o'clock!

Earlier in the day I talked to Philip about how long it takes to film something that's on television for about five minutes. Philip said it takes "Forever and a day"!

A long day and then the journey home. All for two episodes of Flog It!

Derby University.

A funny thing happened on the way to Derby!                    Keep smiling, you're on television.

Are they going to Flog It Michael?       How many does it take to film five minutes of television?

Talk to me someone.....                                 Then they all arrive at once!!!!

Did you see that move?                                                   Any tea left?

Yet another autograph David?

Seems a shame to wake them.                     Shall we all go home and leave Phil here?

Have you nicked my hat Barbs?

"I have learned so much from David. He's forgotten more than I know and he's the best expert we've got on Flog It"  Paul Martin.

The Potteries Shopping Centre in Stoke on Trent was the venue for filming of another Flog It! The valuation day took place on 23rd  November 2003.

The experts on the day along with David, were Mark Stacey, James Lewis and Nigel Smith. The valuations start about 9.30am and continue until approximately 4.30pm. However, when I left at about 5.30pm, David and Mark were still being filmed!

Earlier in the day Mark saw my t-shirt, which has David's picture on. He pointed at it and said " Daddy "! Thought that might amuse all of you who've made comments about the likeness. Apparently David and Mark's conversations make quite a funny double act. But it seems none of it suitable for family viewing!

Perhaps we're overdue for an 'out-takes' video/DVD.

Also thanks to James for helping me get autographs on a Bracketts auction room Children In Need catalogue. This has since been auctioned on ebay in aid of CIN, where it raised £36. Thank you to those who signed it, those who bid for it and Caroline from Sheffield who bought it.

Spot the expert!                      Where did my chair go?          Right, who's for a sing-a-long?

I'm valuing this one lads!                                                  What do I say now?

Chatting up the ladies David?              Watch and learn son.                Well I think it's a fake.

Dad said I could have a go.                                        He valued that at how much?
